Welcome to the ASV

We are a sailing-club for students living in Aachen. Our members have the ability to sail on our boats on the Rursee and our offshore Racing Yacht the AGIV. The club allows members to learn sailing, to connect with other sailors and to create long lasting friendships .

 

How to join the ASV

If you want to join the ASV just come by during one of our “Aktivenversammlungen” (members meeting) every other Monday at 8pm. You can look up when the next one is in our calendar. There will always be many people eager to tell you more about the club and to answer any questions you might have.

Please note, that although we all speak english, our main language is german.

 

Learn to sail!

You can not yet sail? No problem, you can learn with us!

Every semester we offer theory courses for all the different licences you could need. In the summer you can also learn the practical side of sailing on our boats on the Rursee.

All courses  are open to club members as well as external participants.

 

We offer:

•  SBF Binnen (inshore motor and sailing license)

This is the licence needed to operate a sailing or motor vessel inshore on German waters. It teaches you the basics on how to sail as well as the laws and rules on the water.

This license has two separate parts for motor and sailing which can be done separate or combined.

 

•  SBF See (License for the coast and sea lanes)

This license enables you to sail boats with motors over 15PS and is recognised internationally. You learn the basics on how to navigate a boat and how to drive a boat within a three mile range offshore.

This license is also a requirement for all further sailing licenses.

 

•  SKS

This license is for operating leisure crafts in coastal waters, up to 12 miles from shore. The theory goes further in depth on navigation, weather and practical yacht handling.

 

•  UBI/SRC (Nautical radio licenses)

Most of the modern maritime traffic communicates via VHF-radio. In our course, you will experience how to use the radio itself, learn and practice the radio protocols and prepare for the license test.  

For inshore in germany this is the UBI license and for offshore it’s SRC.

Aquis Granus IV

We are very proud of our offshore sailboat. It is a custom full carbon boat on which many of our members have learned a lot about sailing, had great vacations and competed in regattas. The boat travels everywhere from the north and Baltic sea to the Mediterranean and has even been to the Caribbean.

During those trips club members have the ability to gain the experience of sailing offshore for a very affordable price.

The crew is always composed of one of our skippers as well as some experienced sailors who teach you how to sail and guide you through the experience.

 

Our boats at the Rursee

At the Rursee which is about an hour drive from Aachen we currently have 13 boats, ranging from small sailing dinghies like a ILCA (Laser), RS Aero, 470er up to our self-built 8m wooden boat, the Voodoo.

We also have a couple of keel-boats like two Dyas as well as a Folkeboot. 

 

At the Rursee we also have a small cabin which allows club members to spend the night and enjoy the summer grilling and enjoying time outdoors.
